DANCE AS A SUBJECT

What is involved in Dance at School?

The Stage 5/6 Dance course provides students with the opportunity to undertake a study of Dance as an art form. Students study three interrelated components; Performance, Composition and Appreciation and develop their understanding of dance practice in relation to a wider appreciation of dance artists and their work.

If you or your child is considering choosing DANCE as a subject either in Stage 5 ( Yr 9/10 ) or in Stage 6 ( Yr 11/12 ) then we hope you find this collation of information helpful. You will find various documents for Stage 6 and Stage 5. If you have any questions please email me Carla.webster1@det.nsw.edu.au.

Remember when making your choice think about what you enjoy. Those that are passionate about moving their bodies, performing, creating, analysing, watching and writing about Dance tend to be successful students and achieve pleasing results.

The nature of the Dance course and the 3 different components means that students can excel no matter what their prior experience is. Students who study Dance do not need to have dance experience but should have a love for self-expression, appreciation of the art form and the confidence to push themselves to develop their own skills. Kirrawee High has a reputation of achieving outstanding HSC Dance results, and so if you have prior dance experience outside of school, we highly recommend this subject in Stage 5 &  6.
